The festive season is upon us and the spirit of giving is top of mind for many people. We are so proud to have joined hands with Eco Children who this year collect just over 600 Santa Shoeboxes for the Santa Shoebox Project.

Santa Shoebox Inspiration

Every year the incredible Santa Shoebox Project reaches out to schools, organisations and individuals in order to create shoeboxes filled with personalised gifts, essential items and treats.  These gift boxes are then collected and distributed amongst underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia. 

Amazingly, in 14 years of operation, they have reached almost 1 million children in need to make their festive season a happier one. 

How Does It Work?

The success of the Santa Shoebox Project is partly due to its personalised nature – donors are given the name, gender and age of the child they are collecting gifts for. There is also an extensive network of kind-hearted people who give freely of their time, energy and expertise without getting anything in return. 

This project also largely relies on the generous backing of various corporate sponsors and many companies, such as Thornybush, who get staff members and guests to pledge Santa Shoeboxes every year. 

Working Together

This year Thornybush Community Projects were proud to support Eco Children in order to add more value and spread the joy even further. Eco Children is an incredible non-profit organisation which focuses on hands on environmental education and other various upliftment programs. Their focus on uplifting members of the community and creating sustainable education are in-line with our core beliefs and goals.

We are so proud to have been involved in this wonderful initiative again, which saw over 600 boxes going to the communities surrounding the Thornybush Nature Reserve. The joy on the youngsters’ faces when they received their gifts was a reminder of the pleasure such a small token can bring.

After the year we have all experienced it is incredibly rewarding to reach out to those less fortunate and give something back.
