Sticky Pork Lollipops – Monwana Lodge

Guests on safari at Monwana Lodge tend to rave about our Sticky Pork lollipops once they get home. Here’s how you can recreate this simple favourite in your own kitchen. Delicious as an entrée or to snack on around the braai fire while you wait for the meat to cook.

How to Make the Sticky Pork Lollipops


  • 2 Pork tenderloin fillets, sliced into 1.5cm rounds
  • 50g Dry roasted peanuts
  • A few sprigs of fresh coriander

For the marinade:

Mix the following ingredients together in a glass or plastic bowl. 1TSunflower oil

  • 3TSoy sauce
  • 4THoisin or oyster sauce
  • 2TRunny honey
  • 3 Cloves garlic, crushed
  • 25gGinger, finely grated
  • 1 Red chilli, finely chopped

Add to the pork and leave it to marinate.


  1. Heat the oven to 200°C
  2. Roast the peanuts and coriander for 2 to 3 minutes until dried
  3. Remove from the oven and whizz them until fine like a ‘salt’
  4. Heat the braai or grill to high and cook the pork for 3-4 minutes on each side
  5. Skewer each pork ring with a lollipop stick and serve with the peanut salt for dipping

To make a good snack even better, these pork lollipops are really healthy.

Tenderloin is one of the healthiest, most versatile and least fatty cuts of pork. The rest of the ingredients are also good for you, except for the sunflower oil and the salt in the sauces – but it’s all good in small quantities.

Peanuts (unless you are allergic to them) are healthy little things, packed with protein, monounsaturated, fat, fibre, Vitamin E, niacin, folate, protein and manganese. These are all things that your heart will love you for.

Garlic is packed with Allicin which is a natural regulator of blood sugar and blood pressure. Ginger gives your immune system a lift and protects you against stroke and heart disease. The chillies will keep you cold-free with a powerful blend of vitamin C, A and E, beta-carotene, folic acid and potassium.

Unsurprisingly, honey is the star of the show with more health benefits than most other ingredients on earth. Honey is a champion in the fight against cancer and heart disease. It reduces ulcers and other gastrointestinal complaints and increases athletic performance. It is probiotic and antibiotic which means it kills the bad and promotes the good bacteria. The list goes on but trust us, it’s all good stuff.
