General Manager – Thornybush Community

In a Nutshell

The General Manager is responsible for all business activities in the NPO. You will constantly find ways to innovate and ensure the NPO is aligned to the core strategy of the Group.

What you will be doing

  • Leading and driving the strategy which is aligned to 3 focus areas namely: Enterprise Development, Conservation Awareness and Educational Support.
  • Developing and implementing PPP (Policy |Process |Procedure) for all areas of the NPO
  • Manage a communications strategy in conjunction with the Thornybush group of lodges.
  • Manage a fundraising strategy
  • Partner and collaborate with Thornybush group of lodges and their people
  • Identify, assess, activate and monitor suitable projects for the NPO
  • Develop new and grow & manage all existing relationships with NPO partners | Stakeholders and Donors
  • Ensure good governance practices within the NPO
  • Spearhead strategy per initiative – initiate | incubate | exit and maintain
  • Prepare annual budget and manage costs against budget including day-to-day financial processing (e.g. invoicing, receipts, expense recordal, payment requests etc.)
  • Monitoring and evaluation across the NPO including reporting to the NPO Board and Thornybush group of lodges.
  • Develop, implement, and manage all service-level agreements with partner organisations
  • Daily personnel management – Recruitment | PDP | HR processes| Payroll

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Suite, PowerPoint, Outlook, Asana and Canva
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • South African National or have a valid work visa
  • Grade 12
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification to your advantage



  • Experience in Community Development and or CSI/ESG (Environmental Social and Governance) in a rural setting
  • Experience in a senior leadership role
  • Proven track record of successfully leading a team and multiple projects.
  • Specialist: Enterprise Development, Project Management
  • Strong command of the English language and fluency in Xitsonga and/or IsiZulu (second language)
  • Experience in project management within a rural setting
  • Experience with NGO best practice
  • Experience in basic bookkeeping including budget management
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising strategies and donor relations
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups of people
  • Experience in conflict resolution within a rural setting
  • Understanding of Traditional Structures within the K2C Landscape
