As 2018 draws to a close, we’d like to take this opportunity to reflect back on some of the Thornybush Collection’s highlights for the year, and what we (and you) can look forward to in 2019.
The year started off on a difficult note with the drought that had Cape Town in a firm grip, affecting tourism across the entire country. While we’re over 1 800km away, the number of tourists heading to SA dropped off dramatically.
Luckily, the Cape had a great wet season and dams are fuller than what they have been in years. So we’re looking forward to welcoming international guests to the country once again (although very much more conscious about water usage and the effects climate change is having in different parts of the world).
Last year we saw the removal of the 27km boundary fence, which separated Thornybush from the Kruger National Park (at the Timbavati Border). The diversity of animal life we’ve seen over the past year has been incredible, enhancing the game viewing opportunities in the park beyond what we’d ever expected.
We anticipate that animals will continue to roam freely between the Thornybush Nature Reserve and Kruger National Park, enjoying an extra 14,500 hectares of space!
This year marked the start of construction on our newest accommodation offering, Saseka Tented Camp. This modern take on a tented camp overlooks the seasonal Monwana River and will accommodate guests in large, canvas-walled rooms with wrap-around verandas and an ultra-modern, energy efficient communal area.
We’re on track to open Saseka in March 2019, so make sure you keep an eye on our Social Media profiles to see the final product!
